What is marbling? TOP
Marbling is an ancient offset printing process.  Simply put, paint or ink is floated on a thickened liquid base.  the paint or ink transfers to the fabric or paper when it in top of the base.

How do you marble on fabric? TOP
The fabric is first scoured, then hand dyed, rinced, washed and dried.  The hand dyed fabric is then cut to the desired size.  It is soaked in an alum solution then allowed to hand dry.  The marbling base has been mixed and allowed to cure.  A thin layer of paints is floated on top of the marbling base and the design created.  The fabric is carefully lowered onto the base then gently removed.  The marbled fabric must be gently rinsed and allowed to hang dry.  Once dry, the marbled fabric must rest ten to tweleve days so that the paints can cure.  A final wash, dry and pressing follows and the hand dyed marbled fabric is ready for use.

How long does it take to produce hand marbled fabric? TOP
The entire process takes a little over two weeks from start to finish.

How much is shipping in the US? TOP
Our prices include shipping within the United States. Nothing makes me crazier than finding something on line at a good price. Only to discover the shipping costs are outrageous.  We don't play that game, we work very hard to keep our shipping costs fair and reasonable. All US shipments will be shipped via the United States Postal Service.

How quickly will my order be shipped? TOP
Most orders will be shipped within 48 hours.  We make every effort to keep everything on our web site in stock.  If we are sold out and will not be getting more we will let email you ASAP.  With our Hand Marbled and Hand Dyed fabrics we will email you with the date we expect to have more available for shipping.

Do I need to pre-wash fabrics from Marbled Arts? TOP
Our dying process guarantees that the fabric is pre-srunk and washable.  We always recomend that you first rince any fabric until if runs clear before you include it in a project.  Why take chances?

How do I care for my Marbled Arts fabric? TOP
We suggest cold water, gentle, delicate or handwash cycle or by hand using non-detergent soap.  Our fabrics may be idried in your home clothes dryer on a medium setting, then ironed on the reverse side using the cotton setting.

What type of fabric does Marbled Arts use? TOP
We use only the finest 100% cotton available for our fabrics.  We go thru an extensive process to create our hand marbled fabrics, our goal is that they be of heirloom quality.

What non-detergent soap do you recommend? TOP
We use Synthrapol because it also helps prevent any excess dye color from redepositing onto your fabric.  Dr. Bronner's and Orvis Paste Soap are also excellent non-detergent soaps.

Can Hand Marbled fabric be used for turned needle applique? TOP
Yes!  You just need to use a finer/thinner needle.

What is the largest piece of fabric you marble? TOP
Marbled Arts produces Fat Quarters 18" x 22" and Fat Halves 22" x 36" peices.  As the size of the fabric increases so does the chance for error.

Does Marbled Arts make fabric donation to chartable groups? TOP

Are their any Hints to sewing with the Jacquards? TOP

Jacquards are woven differently than regular cotton, which is what gives them that wonderful silky look and feel.  Try to keep the ripping out of seams to a minimum as this could cause raveling.  When piecing use fine pins (such as silk pins or fine quilting pins) to pin your pieces together.  Use "sharp" needles instead of the "ball point" or "universal" needles in a size 10 (70) or 12 (80) for sewing. Make sure that the needle has a sharp point and has not dulled through overuse. The sharp needle has a sharp tapered point instead of the more rounded point of a ball point needle.  Use around a 2.5 (approximately 10 to 12 stitches per inch) stitch length when sewing with the jacquards.

Available in pre-cut size pieces only. What does that mean? TOP
We travel to a number of quilt shows during the year and we pre-cut the fabric into Fat Quarter, 1 Yard and 3 Yard cuts.  If you see that note on a fabric we no longer have any on the bolt and the pieces noted are all we have available.

Cut in Fat Quarters and ½ yard increments only. What does that mean? TOP
We have fabric still available on the bolt.  You can order a Fat Quarter or yardage in 1/2 yard increments.  If you would like 2 1/2 yards order (1) 1/2 yard and (2) 1 yards and we will send you a 2 1/2 yard piece.
