What is marbling? | |
|
Marbling is an ancient offset printing process. Simply put, a very thin layer of paint or ink is floated on a thickened liquid base. The paint or ink is transferred to the fabric or paper when it is place on the base. |

How do you marble fabric? | |
|
The fabric is first scoured, then dyed, rinsed, washed and dried. Fabric is cut to size. It is then soaked in alum so the paints will adhere when marbled then allowed to hang dry. The base has been mixed and allowed to cure. Paints are floated on top of the base and the pattern created using rakes and combs. The fabric is carefully placed on the base then gently removed. The fabric must be rinsed and allowed to hang dry. Once dry the fabric will rest for the paints to cure. Followed by final wash, dry and pressing. It’s now ready for shipping. |

How long does it take to produce marbled fabric? | |
|
The whole process takes about two weeks from start to finish. |

Do I need to pre-wash fabrics from Marbled Arts? | |
|
Our dying process guarantees that the fabric is preshrunk and washable. We always recommend that you first rinse any fabric until it runs clear. Why take chances. |
||
|

How do I care for fabrics from Marbled Arts? | |
|
We recommend that you wash your fabric in cold water by hand or machine wash gentle, using a non-detergent soap. We use Dr. Bronner’s, Orvis Paste Soap, or Synthrapol. Dry the fabric in the dryer (about 15 minutes) and iron on the reverse side with medium heat. Treat it like you would any other piece of heirloom fabric. |

Does Marbled Arts make fabric donations to Quilt Guilds for door prizes, auctions and etc.? | |
| Please understand that Marbled Arts receive five to six donations requests per week. As much as we would love to send our marbled fabric to every one that asks, it is just not possible. Instead we have chosen to focus our donation giving to a few local good works. | ||

Shipping Information | |
| Nothing makes me crazier than finding something on line at a good price. Only to discover the shipping costs are outrageous. We don't play that game. Our prices include shipping within the United States. Most orders will be shipped within 48 hours. If you order is not currently in stock, please allow 3 - 4 weeks for you order to arrive. All US shipments will be shipped via the United States Postal Service. Washington state residents must pay 8.4% sales tax on their purchases. | ||
| International shipments are made via the United Stated Postal Service. Please note that the shopping cart does not accurately calculate international shipping charges. Upon receipt of your address, we will email you with any additional shipping charges. Upon receiving an email from you acknowledging and accepting the shipping charges, your credit card will be charged and the shipment sent. We are not trying to make money on our shipping charges. We charge you only what it costs us to ship your order. Please note that due to a large amount of fraudulent orders Marbled Arts will not ship to Nigeria. | ||
| Custom forms are completed for all international shipments in compliance with USPS and US federal laws declaring the actual value of the shipment. All customs and import duties are the responsibility of the buyer and not Marbled Arts. | ||

| Our goal is that you are delighted with our fabric and service. Marbled Arts will make every effort to ensure that your order is completed and shipped in a timely manner. Please note that as each piece is produced by hand it could take between 3 to 4 weeks for fabric to be completed and reach you. When you receive our fabrics you have up to 30 days to return them. They must be in new condition and uncut when we receive them in order for you to receive a full refund. If we make a mistake we will gladly refund your return shipping cost. Other wise the return shipping is at your expense. | ||
